Village of Orland Hills Proclamation # 2010-1026 CAR FREE DAY Whereas, lengthening car commutes and increasing congestion are putting greater stress and burdens on Orland Hills residents and commuters; and, Whereas, Orland Hills is a transit-friendly village which also offers great biking and walking infrastructure, as well as an accessible multi-modal public transportation regional network; and, Whereas, multi-modal systems enhance mobility, build community and reduce smog and carbon pollution; and, Whereas, a special day to rediscover the Village of Orland Hills without a car and reconnect with fellow community members, can educate people about their transportation options, environmental impacts, and other quality of life issues that are within each individual’s control; and, Whereas, World Car Free Day is celebrated during the month of September in 1,500 cities in 40 countries around the globe, Now, therefore, I, Kyle R. Hastings, do hereby commemorate “World Car Free Day” and proclaim September 22, 2010, to be “Orland Hills Car Free Day”.
